            At the early time of Taiwan, Din Tao was assembled by clans and families. The functions of Din Tao are as following:

            Din Tao usually sponsored and supported by clans or people in the village. The identity of people in the village could be improved through the performance. In addition, the host of the series activities was usually represented by the elders of the tribe. In other words, the fortune and social status in the tribe were basic effects of activities, which was implied the social recognition of the residents.
     

  2. The economic function
            Din Tao usually performed at the plaza in front of temples, where visitors, peddlers and businessmen gathered during the deity festival. With the atmosphere of celebration, people were in the mood of shopping. So the economic growth was stimulated through the increasing frequency of consuming.
     

  3. The religious function
            During the festival, the performance of Din Tao celebrated the birthday of the deity on one hand and presented
    people's
    appreciation for the blessing of gods on the other. Both were the function of religion. Din Tao performed with worship at the plaza facing to the door of the temples most of time. It not only presented people's gratitude but also played the role as a communicator, passing people's prayer and wishes to gods and hoping for benedictions.
     

  4. The social function
            In the conservative agriculture, social events were not popular. However, the activities around the temple were the main occasion of social association to the neighborhood, friends and families. People who worked in the city also came back for reunion.
     

  5. The entertaining function
            People in the village enjoyed a lot in the performance of Din Tao and diverse plays of drama. Before the formal performance, each family in the village helped the rehearsal of Din Tao since it was the significant event. They would concentrate on the show and be proud and thrilled if the performance was successful, especially when the members of Din Tao were doing challenging moves and posture, which were excitingly entertaining.
     

  6. The educational function
            Besides the moves and the pattern of Din Tao were the highlights of the performance, there were also manners or specification that each Din Tao group emphasized, for example, respecting teachers and elders, brotherhood, the common values and so on. Members of Din Tao and audience shared, learned, passed and transferred these messages together. The ideas would be applied in the relationship between individuals and groups.

            Taiwanese people recruit and sponsor the groups of Din Tao based on tribes. The main purpose of Din Tao groups is performing at local social occasion to worship gods and entertain audience. The following are the reasons why Din Toa plays important role in Taiwanese culture:

            Din Toa is a kind of sport in Taiwan. As the performer, the good physical condition is required. The members of Din Tao will be trained to be strong and flexible to achieve challenging moves through daily exercising and studying in kung-fu.

            People worked hard with seldom leisure time in the traditional society of agriculture. They stopped working only before the deity patrol to join the rehearsal of Din Tao Arts and other preparation process. Presenting and enjoying the Din Tao performance were entertainment to both Din Tao members and audience so that people were able to be free from daily load temporarily.
     

  3. Religion
            The performance of Din Tao arts not only deepens people's faith to deities but also lively flourish atmosphere. Since people believe that Din Tao performance is able to exorcise and bring peace, it has become the indispensable part of the worship ceremony.
     

  4. Culture
            The purpose of hiring Din Tao may be different, but the needs of worship and entertainment are the same. To recruit the Din Tao group of a village will bring young people to join the traditional festival and ceremony. Therefore, Din Tao arts can be passed through generations and promoted widely, which is crucial from the point of culture preservation.
